97 Percent of Manhattan Beach Senior Citizens Are Vaccinated

May 05, 2021 08:21AM ● By Jeanne Fratello
A whopping 97% of Manhattan Beach seniors (ages 65 and over) have received at least their first COVID-19 vaccine as of April 30, according to a new report by the Los Angeles County Department of Health.

Across Manhattan Beach's total population, a total of 21,673, or 73% of eligible residents (ages 16 and over) have received at least their first vaccine.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles County on Tuesday announced that it has moved into the Yellow Tier, or the least restrictive tier before things return back to normal (the Green Tier).

L.A. County's adjusted case rate has now dropped from 1.9 new cases per 100,000 people to 1.6 new cases per 100,000. The overall test positivity rate dropped from 0.9% to 0.7%, and in areas with the fewest health affirming resources, L.A. County’s test positivity rate dropped from 1.0% to 0.8%.

A revised Los Angeles County Health Officer Order will go into effect on Thursday, May 6, to reflect newly permitted activities. Moving into the yellow tier allows, on Thursday, for increases in capacity in many sectors and allows bars to begin providing indoor service at 25% capacity. (All of these changes will still require safety modifications, including masking, distancing and infection control to reduce the risk of transmission.)

The sectors with increases in capacity limits include amusement parks and fairs, gyms and fitness centers, yoga studios, private events, bars, hotels and short-term lodging rentals, private gatherings, breweries, indoor playgrounds, restaurants, card rooms and racetracks, indoor and outdoor live events and performances, wineries and tasting rooms, family entertainment centers, and museums, zoos, and aquariums.

Vaccinate Rates Continue Rising

With now widely available vaccines, L.A. County continues to show widespread vaccination rates.

For Los Angeles County as a whole, 1,087,846 individuals ages 65 and over, or 79.2%,  have received at least their first dose of the vaccine.

And across Los Angeles County, 4,485,937 individuals ages 16 and over, or 53.9%, have received at least their first dose.

All told, in Los Angeles County, 2,983,914, or 35.8% of individuals ages 16 and over are fully vaccinated and have completed all doses of the vaccine.

Vaccine appointments continue to be available for individuals ages 16 and up. Book your appointment at myturn.ca.gov.
