It won't be long till the crack of the bat and the smell of hot dogs fill the air all around Manhattan Beach.

Little league baseball and softball signups are concluding now, so don't miss the chance to sign up the kids. Avoid a $60 late fee by signing up before this weekend's over.
Online registration is available at: register.mbya.org.

The Manhattan Beach Little League is one of the very largest in the United States.

Last year, there were more than 1,300 boys and girls playing on 120 teams, participating in more than 1,000 games, according to MBLL president David Henschel.

Little League boys have made deep runs into the national playoffs in recent years. Just last year, the Manhattan Beach/Hermosa Beach Juniors (13- and 14-year-olds) were the West Champions and went all the way to the USA final against Texas.

The 2014 MB Senior team

The MB Senior team was the West runner-up in 2014, compiling an impressive 12-0 playoff record before falling to Hawaii in the regional final. (See DigMB's "Photo Tribute to MB Senior All-Stars.")

But for most players, being on a baseball team isn't about playoffs or traveling or, often, competing at all. It's about being with friends, and making new ones.

Manhattan Beach Little League and Girls' Softball do an excellent job of gradually providing training in the fundamentals of baseball, on an age-appropriate basis, with the goal of inspiring a love of the game. It's a successful season when kids want to keep playing year after year.

President's Welcome Letter, with lots of details about each league and some new programs.
