The 49th Annual Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair returned over the weekend, in person, to sunshine and enthusiastic crowds.

The fair opened with the traditional parade, featuring Manhattan Beach Mayor Hildy Stern, members of the Manhattan Beach City Council, L.A. County Supervisor Janice Hahn, and Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair Association President Joe Marcy.

Organizers said that it was a welcome relief to have the fair return in person, after last year's fair was held virtually due to the pandemic.

"This event has been in the making for two years, and we cannot tell you how excited we are to be back," Marcy told the assembled crowd on Saturday morning.

Marcy continued: "There is so much pride and joy in this community. This is your fair. The money you spend on these fairgrounds will support meaningful causes. On these fields, when you spend money on food and games, you're helping the community and you're helping local nonprofits. We're so proud to serve a platform for them to help raise money...We're so happy to have you here."

At the conclusion of the parade, Hahn presented Marcy with a proclamation from L.A. County congratulating the fair on its return.
