White Light White Night Raises $400K for Walk With Sally

Aug 24, 2021 10:56PM ● By Jeanne Fratello
White Light White Night, the annual fundraiser benefiting the local nonprofit Walk With Sally, drew more than 500 people and raised $400,000 last weekend.

Longtime community supporters as well as major corporate sponsors joined together to raise funds for Walk With Sally at the organization's 15th annual summer event. Walk With Sally coordinates mentors and other programs to assist children who have experienced the trauma of losing a loved one to cancer.

Walk With Sally Founder Nick Arquette spoke at the event and gave a brief tribute to his mother Sally, who died of cancer and became the inspiration for the nonprofit. Arquette then thanked attendees for continuing to be part of a community that supports children going through difficult journeys with cancer in the family.

"Speaking about community - that's what this was about tonight," said Arquette. "It's getting all of us back together again, and celebrating what it means to be connected. No offense to Zoom, Meetup and all the other apps - but this is what it's all about, right here tonight."

The Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to Kathy Doel and Jim McErlean.

The Barb Mackerer Lifetime Friendship Award was presented to Brian Green and Ernesto Gomez Jr.

White Light White Night also featured live musical guest The Spazmatics, plus “A Taste of L.A.” with offerings from local restaurants, auctions and special signature cocktails.

This year's restaurant sponsors from Manhattan Beach included The Strand House, Lido di Manhattan, Petros, Zinc @Shade, and Rock'n Fish. New restaurant partners included Mi Lai Kitchen, The Hook & Plow, The Brews Hall, and Fox & Farrow.

Drinks were provided by Tito's Handmade Vodka, Stella, Gelson's, and new partners Mico Tequila (a local South Bay tequila company) and George Lopez's Ta Loco Brewing Company. The VIP experience featured Select Aperitivo and La Marca Prosecco.

White Light White Night had the backing of more than 35 major corporate sponsors, including Tito’s, Land Rover South Bay, Jaguar South Bay, Chevron, Los Angeles Chargers, CalPrivate Bank and more.
