Celebrate Kentucky Derby Day in Manhattan Beach

Who will wear the coveted garland of Roses Will it be Girvin? Classic Empire? McKraken? Or a young upstart? No matter which horse comes out ahead at Churchill Downs you can enjoy the festivities at not one but two big Kentucky Derby parties this weekend.
Shade Hotel will be hosting its second annual Kentucky Derby party on Saturday, May 6, starting at noon. This is a free event and no tickets are required. Ladies are encouraged to wear stylish dresses and Kentucky Derby-themed hats, and gents should bring out their most dapper derby attire. Guests will enjoy Mumm Champagne, Maker's Mark Mint Juleps, Derby-inspired cocktails; small plates and complimentary passed hors d'oeuvres; a DJ; and several contests and prizes. Manhattan Country Club will be host to a second Kentucky Derby party, this one also starting at noon on May 6. The event will feature state-of-the-art production in an upscale country club atmosphere with live music from Lou Giovannetti, Cool Whip, and Mikie Smithers. Tickets are $45 for admission; $75 for a brunch ticket that includes a two-course meal and a glass of Champagne.
