Near the end of the nineteenth century, Mark Twain underscored the complex links between social institutions and identity in his satire of slavery "Pudd'nhead Wilson". In "Just Mercy", 120 years later, Bryan Stevenson explores race, class, and the American criminal justice system through his central story of Walter McMillian who was released from prison in 1993 after spending six years on death row for a crime that he didn't commit.
