Manhattan Village Plaza Springs to Life with 'Village Market'

Apr 27, 2021 10:30AM ● By Jeanne Fratello
Following a massive redesign and construction project, Manhattan Village in Manhattan Beach is now home to more than just shops and restaurants. The mall now boasts a welcoming outdoor plaza that hosts a monthly community event known as the "Village Market."

The Village Market, which generally takes place on the first Saturday of every month, offers visitors an opportunity to shop with local vendors and enjoy live music and entertainment.

"The Village Market was created to celebrate the new outdoor area of the shopping center officially called The Plaza," Manhattan Village General Manager Don Ziss told DigMB. "With county restrictions in place, it made a safer option for shopping outside, and brought awareness to the redevelopment project and new retailers and restaurants."

The next Village Market is coming up on Saturday, May 1, from noon to 4:00 p.m.

Currently, the Village Market is asking visitors to RSVP to reserve a (free) timed entry ticket to ensure social distancing.

In the future, once county restrictions are removed, there will not be an RSVP system in place, said Ziss.

Upcoming Village Market events are scheduled for June 5, August 7, September 4, October 2, November 6, and December 4.

A Variety of Vendors

Vendors at the Village Market are generally local to the South Bay. They offer handcrafted items, boutique clothing, jewelry, plants and flowers, cosmetics, and more.

Saturday's event will feature hats and accessories from Born To Roam; soap from Ojarsoap; organic products from HereNow CBD; apparel and accessories from CherryGood LA; kids' dentistry information from Pearly Smiles Pediatrics; lashes from Kim Bauer Lashes; grazing/charcuterie boards from The Graze Social; handmade artistry from Jako Designs; refreshments from Shaded Bliss; arrangements from Twigz Floral Designs; home accessories from Beaches & Blooms; seasonal trends from Style On The Spot; frozen treats from Mothers Milk Truck; home decor from The Caffeinated Mom Co.; gifts from Sending My Love; apparel from Lux Studio LA; and contemporary designers from Lily Love Boutique.

Potential vendors can also apply to be featured at the market. "Our max capacity for outdoors is currently 20 vendors, but we can include more in the interior of the center as needed," said Ziss.

Ziss noted that the presence of vendors outside the market do not compete with Manhattan Village's current retailers, but in fact complement them and help drive more traffic to the mall.

Plaza Will Host More Community Events

The Village Market is also just one of many upcoming new events at Manhattan Village's new plaza.

There will be a Memorial Day concert in the plaza on May 30 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. featuring Feed the Kitty Band.

And from June 17 through August 28, the mall will host a Summer Outdoor Concert Series in the plaza on Thursdays and Saturdays from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

The plaza is also home to periodic pop-up workout and fitness events.
