Manhattan Beach Police to Hold DUI Checkpoint
Apr 16, 2021 11:35AM ● By Mb News StaffThe Manhattan Beach Police Department has released the following statement regarding a DUI and drivers' license checkpoint to be held on Manhattan Beach Blvd. this weekend:
The
Manhattan Beach Police Department will be conducting a DUI/Driver’s
License checkpoint on Friday, April 16, from 8:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.
The purpose of the checkpoint
is to promote public safety, increase the awareness of the dangers
associated with drinking and driving, and deter impaired driving and
unlicensed driving. This checkpoint will be conducted in joint
partnership with the California Office of Traffic Safety.
Fundraising for this checkpoint is provided by the Manhattan Beach
Police Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic
Safety.
The
intent of the checkpoint is to encourage sober designated drivers. By
publicizing these educational and enforcement efforts, the Manhattan
Beach Police Department believes
that drinking and driving and driving while unlicensed will be reduced.
Our
“Zero Tolerance” approach to enforcement sends a clear message to those
who still don’t heed the warning to designate a sober driver before
celebrations begin. Simply put,
“If you are over the legal limit, you will be arrested.”
The public is encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 911 if they see a suspected impaired driver.
