Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce Issues Letter on Bruce's Beach

Apr 14, 2021 05:19PM ● By Jeanne Fratello
Following last week's Bruce's Beach press conference with Janice Hahn and other county and state lawmakers, the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce released the following statement on Bruce's Beach to its members, to clarify that the chamber does not take a position on these issues and does not in any way speak for the city:

Dear Chamber Members:

The Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce (“Chamber”) has received many inquiries regarding statements made about Bruce’s Beach. The Chamber has not taken an official position on any matters related to this topic.

The Manhattan Beach Chamber is an association of businesses, other entities, and individuals organized to encourage a strong local economy and quality of life by promoting commerce, sound government, and an informed membership and community.

Last year, the Chamber formed an Inclusion Committee to address the many diversity and inclusion challenges facing our society today. The Chamber in both its values and practices is committed to the inclusion and excellence of all diverse people, irrespective of difference. This means that there shall be no barriers to participation in any activity of this Chamber on the basis of economic position, gender, race, creed, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, or disability.

We recognize that diverse perspectives are important and necessary for responsible and representative decision-making. We believe inclusiveness is a fundamental principle of every organization that enhances its ability to respond more effectively to changing demographics and needs. We affirm our commitment to reflecting the diversity of Manhattan Beach, the South Bay, and the members of the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce.

The Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce appreciates your membership and ongoing support. If you have any questions, please contact either myself or the Board Chair, Latrice McGlothin.

Respectfully,

President/CEO

Board Chair
