The National Charity League brings mothers and daughters together aiming to serve the community while helping to build leaders and lifelong philanthropists.
Three local NCL
Chapters - South Bay, Manhattan/Hermosa, and the recently formed Pier
Chapter - all participated in the Sea of Love event.
NCL members also created personalized cards for the FFK families.
Food for Kids
Food For Kids' mission is to provide weekend meals to low-income families in the South Bay whose children receive school-provided meals during the week, but who don't always have enough food on the weekend.
With a new and very different school year, the families FFK serves - those who are already struggling - are facing even more adversity because of the pandemic, and the need for FFK’s services has increased.
In fact, by the end of 2020, Feeding America predicts that nearly 17% of all Americans will be food insecure. California and Los Angeles County specifically are predicted to have the highest number AND largest increase in food insecure individuals in the entire country, and the number of children in L.A. County experiencing food insecurity is expected to rise by almost 40%.
Currently, FFK serves two schools in San Pedro; one school each in Wilmington, Gardena, and Carson; 105 families through the Pediatric Therapy Network; and the Harbor Interfaith Shelter in San Pedro. The group expects to add more schools monthly.
The National Charity League's South Bay Chapter has
an ongoing relationship with Food for Kids. Previously, over the last two months, they donated 3,757 pounds of food
with a weekly meal bag drop-off.
