Seeing more mustaches lately? Manhattan Beach is getting into Movember.

During the month of November 2020, some members of the Manhattan Beach Police Department will be displaying mustaches and mustache pins to show their support for prostate cancer awareness as part of the Movember campaign.

Additionally, Simmzy's has created a "Team Simmzy's" Movember fundraising page to support the movement.

Also worth noting: A local Movember fundraising teams is traditionally one of the top teams in the country in terms of dollars raised. The South Bay Mo Bros, led by Sandy Goodman, is trying to match or beat last year's fundraising total of $7,752 for mens' health. (DigMB profiled Sandy Goodman in 2015.)

Movember is an annual event involving the growing of mustaches during the month of November to raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer and other men's health issues.

According to the Movember Foundation, men are dying on average 6 years earlier than women, and for largely preventable reasons. Unchecked, prostate cancer rates will double over the next 15 years. Globally, testicular cancer is the most common cancer among men aged 15-39 years of age.

The Movember Foundation has set a goal of reducing the number of men dying prematurely by 25%, and halving the number of deaths from prostate and testicular cancer by 2030.

To that end, Movember funds groundbreaking health projects – 1,250 and counting – uniting experts from all over the world to accelerate research, progress and change. The group's year-round fundraising efforts culminate in its annual mustache-growing event in the month formerly known as November.

Since 2003, more than 6 million "Mo Bros" and "Mo Sisters" across 20 countries have participated in the Movember global men’s health movement, helping men across the world live happier, healthier, longer lives.
