Manhattan Beach Launches 'Healthy At Home' Initiative

Apr 09, 2020 08:17PM ● By Jeanne Fratello
Even if we're stuck at home during the coronavirus outbreak, we all need to stay moving. To help Manhattan Beach residents find healthy activities during this prolonged stay-at-home order, the city has launched a “Healthy at Home” virtual recreation program.

The new program, created in partnership with the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce and local business community, aims to provide residents with options for staying active and healthy at home. It includes instructional fitness and overall wellness videos, virtual fitness and instructional art, cooking and wellness classes, printables and coloring pages for kids, and tips to stay grounded, active and positive at home.

“This can be a very challenging time, and the community’s health and well-being remains a top priority of the City Council," said Manhattan Beach Mayor Richard Montgomery in a statement.

The “Healthy at Home” initiative brings together class instructors, staff, youth sports organizations, and local businesses.

“The Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce is pleased to partner with the city to connect businesses that are offering virtual classes, tips and activities with the residents as everyone is looking for new, creative ways to stay home and remain healthy at this time,” said Kelly Stroman, president and chief executive officer of the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce in a statement.

Recent offerings on the website include a kids' project to make a banjo out of jar lids, an all-levels yoga class, a meditation class for older adults, a link to FYR workout classes, a virtual art tour of Manhattan Beach, and Spotify playlists.

Videos from the site will also be accessible on the city’s YouTube channel, and updates will be provided by the Manhattan Beach Parks & Recreation Department on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
