Over the last two weeks, the Rotary Club of Manhattan Beach has delivered more than 800 dictionaries to children in inner-city schools.
Rotary Club members handed out Scholastic childrens' dictionaries to a total of 813 students at seven different schools in the Los Angeles area. The schools included Sacred Heart, St. Anthony of Padua School, St. Aloysius Gonzaga School, St. Eugene School, St. Michael's School, St. Odilia School, and St. Patrick School.
The Rotary Club has been running the program since 2008, with more than 10,000 dictionaries distributed. Partners in the effort include pages: a bookstore, Wonder of Reading, Molina Foundation and S&M Moving.
Additionally, the Steinmetz Foundation has donated more than $150,000 to this project.
