The last sunset of 2019 - and of the decade - is bound to make for a memorable evening. With that spirit, community members are planning to gather together at the Manhattan Beach Pier to watch the sun set on December 31.
The idea is the brainchild of Manhattan Beach resident Orhan Taner. Taner said that his vision is for a totally commercial-free, organizer-free,
speech-free, civil gathering that starts around 4:15 pm and lasts
about an hour.
"I always thought that it would be fantastic if members of the Manhattan Beach community - adults, children, pets, alike - could get together on Dec 31 on the waterfront to watch and experience the final sunset of the year as a group," said Taner.
This will be the fourth year in a row that Taner and his family have gathered a group at the pier to watch the sun set on New Year's Eve. He hopes that each year these gatherings will grow in size and become another celebrated Manhattan Beach tradition.

"As we all know, December sunsets are gorgeous," said Taner. "To me, the last sunset on
the Pacific marks the end of the year, and that’s a great occasion to
reflect upon and celebrate the past 365 days."
The sun is scheduled to set at 4:55 on December 31.
