The Manhattan Beach Unified School District has appointed a new assistant superintendent of human resources.

Dr. Suzanne Webb, who comes from the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District, will assume her new position on December 1.

As assistant superintendent, Webb will oversee all human resources for MBUSD. She will replace Dr. Brian Lucas, who accepted an appointment at the Lynwood Unified School District.

Webb has served at the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District for twenty-three years. She spent the last four years as the district's director of human resources. Previously, she served as assistant principal at Malibu High School, as well as principal of Lincoln Middle School in Santa Monica.

Her education includes a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from California State University, Northridge (CSUN), a master’s degree in educational leadership and policy from CSUN, and an educational doctorate in educational leadership and policy from Pepperdine University.

She also currently serves as adjunct professor at Pepperdine University, and as a Tier II Administrative Credential Coach for the University of California, Irvine.

“My background and personal journey along with my professional experiences have led me to my true niche – human resources leader," said Webb. "My ‘why’ is building relational capacity with students, staff, and families, which ensuring that students achieve excellence through practices of equity. Helping others discover their ‘why’ while building a culture of respect, inclusion, and fair-mindedness is my strength, and I am excited to bring this strength to Manhattan Beach USD.”

MBUSD leaders welcomed Webb's addition to the team.

“Our interview panel, comprised of teachers, parents, staff, and administrators from MBUSD, was impressed by Dr. Webb’s experience at so many levels in public education," said MBUSD superintendent Michael Matthews in a statement. "I concur with their assessment, and I look forward to Dr. Webb making an immediate impact as she gets to know, support, and lead our employees.”

Bill Fournell, president of the MBUSD Board of Trustees, added, “Dr. Webb clearly has the experience and the desire to lead in our district, and I look forward to her joining our leadership team and working with the board and with all of the students, families, and employees in our district.”

MBUSD serves approximately 6,800 students from preschool to twelfth grade at eight school campuses—one preschool, five elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. The district employs more than 800 teachers and staff members.
