Got finals? The Manhattan Beach Library is here to help.

On Monday through Wednesday afternoons this week, the library is offering extra services to students ages 12 to 18 who are studying for their last week of finals.

The library will be opening up additional study space in the library; and they will offer pencils, ear plugs, and snacks in the Teen Room.

Additionally, the library will feature the following:

Monday (6/10) afternoon: Therapy dogs
Tuesday (6/11) at 7:00 p.m.: Yoga at the library
Wednesday (6/12) afternoon: Pizza and games

Library History and Background

The Manhattan Beach Library was started as a subscription library in 1910 by the Neptunian Woman's Club of Manhattan Beach.

The library became part of the County of Los Angeles Public Library system in January 1915, making it one of the oldest continuing libraries in the county system. The library moved into a separate building in 1957 and to its current location in 1975.

The current 21,500-square-foot building designed by architectural firm Johnson Favaro opened in 2015. It features a two-story modern design with panoramic ocean views, an interactive children's exhibit, fireplace, automated materials handling system, and self-check machines.

Just last month, the L.A. County Library system was named Library of the Year by Library Journal. The library will hold a celebration event in Manhattan Beach on Saturday, June 29 at 5:00 p.m., featuring family activities, live music, and refreshments.
