Although the school year is drawing to a close, ZiiP, the Manhattan Beach school shuttle, is still on the move. And now with its new "guest reservation" option, more kids can join in.
Throughout the school year, ZiiP runs regular shuttle service to and from Manhattan Beach MIddle School and Mira Costa High School; as well as rides to downtown Manhattan Beach and special events (you can request a quote for a custom event). During the summer, it offers shuttle runs to Junior Guards, camps, and more.
The new "guest reservation" option will allow parents to add another child who is not currently part of the system. It's aimed to help if a child wants to bring a friend home after school, if a child has a friend sleeping overnight and needs to join in the morning ride, or if a parent is suddenly unable to drive a carpool shift and needs to put a few extra kids on the shuttle.
ZiiP is an app-based shuttle service that offers multiple rides to and from schools, with easy reservations (up to 10 mins. in advance) and easy cancellations (up to 45 mins in advance).
It runs on a points/pass system, with rides costing between $3 and $5.50 per ride. The system is flexible and open to adding new routes. (If you don't see a stop by your house, you can request one.)
ZiiP's 14-seat shuttles are company owned, verified by CHP, and inspected every month.
ZiiP drivers are state trained and certified ex-school bus drivers who have gone through a multi-point verification and certification, drug testing, and a comprehensive state and federal criminal background check powered by Trustline. They are also first aid certified.
The ZiiP shuttle was created by the Pepemehmetoglu family, a local family with three children at Manhattan Beach schools.
