Neptunian Woman's Club Seeks Art Entries
Apr 25, 2019 02:10PM ● By Jeanne FratelloGot a budding artist in the house? Now's the time for them to enter the Neptunian Woman's Club's 40th Annual Art and Photography
contest.
The contest is open to all Manhattan Beach artists in kindergarten through grade 12. K-12 students
may submit art; and students in grades 6 through 12 may also submit
photography. The submission deadline is Friday, May 10 before 3:00
p.m.
Entry forms and
rules can be found online at neptunians.org/nwc-art-show/ ; and submissions are collected by the local schools.
Each year professional local artists judge submissions and
select the winners. There are cash
awards for first, second, and third place winners.
An
awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 19 at 1:00 p.m. in the Neptunian
Clubhouse at 920 Highland Avenue.
The contest dates back to 1978, when Elizabeth Dorsey organized the first “Art Tea." Dorsey's vision, which continues today, is to inspire and recognize student artists in
Manhattan Beach schools.
In related news, a former winner of the NWC's art contest, Jeanne Allen, now designs for the handbag designer Hammitt. Hammitt and Allen have designed a limited edition "Neptunian blue" purse in honor of the NWC's newly
renovated clubhouse. All the proceeds from
purse sales will go to the 2019 Capital Campaign.
The purses will be
distributed at the "Welcome Back Beach Bash," a fundraiser at the NWC
Clubhouse on May 11. To purchase a purse and/or a ticket to the Beach Bash,
