What do a flying taxi researcher, a sleep doctor, and a budding high school improv comedian all have in common? All have ground-breaking ideas that can challenge and change the way we think about our everyday lives and our future... and all are set to present at the November 4 TEDx Manhattan Beach event.

TEDx Manhattan Beach, now in its ninth year, will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m at Mira Costa High School.

The event consists of speakers who are thought-leaders and innovators in their respective fields, as well as an expo displaying cutting-edge games, challenges, food, and new products.

Speakers include NASA administrator Jaiwon Shin, whose work includes studies on "urban air mobility," a.k.a. the "flying taxi;" Michael J. Breus, a sleep researcher and author known as The Sleep Doctor; and Mira Costa senior Stephanie Sala, an improv comedian who is co-manager of the school's award-winning Comedy Sportz Team.

Ticket prices range from $35 for students and seniors to $95 for adults. A "platinum" ticket offers the "complete TEDx experience" for $148, including dinner at Lido di Manhattan Restaurant that evening. (A separate ticket for the dinner alone can be purchased for $75.)

Manhattan Beach Education Foundation (MBEF) donors, or for those who plan to donate to MBEF, are invited to use discount code MBEF18 to receive $10 off the $95 adult ticket price.

Those who are interested are urged to buy tickets soon. Last year's TEDx Manhattan Beach event drew a record crowd of 1,000 attendees.

Volunteers are also welcome. See the volunteer page and list of jobs for more information.

Lead sponsors of the event include MBEF, the Manhattan Beach Unified School District, the city of Manhattan Beach, and Chevron.
