Get It While It Lasts: Simmzy's Beer Designed by a Bear

Aug 26, 2018 10:18PM ● By Jeanne Fratello
If a bear could design a beer, what ingredients would he choose? Simmzy's got the answer to that question through a unique partnership with the L.A. Zoo - and created a tasty hibiscus pale ale that's getting rave reviews.

The story begins with Brew at the Zoo, an annual summer beer-tasting event at the L.A. Zoo. The brewing team at Simmzy's was tasked with creating a special beer for the event.

The Simmzy's brewing team headed over to the zoo with a a series of potential beer ingredients including hibiscus, honey, orange, and lemongrass. There, the American black bear named Ranger had a chance to look over all of the ingredients.

Ranger went right for the hibiscus flowers and the honey, so the team used those two ingredients along with Mosaic and Amarillo hops to create a special hibiscus pale ale. The hibiscus gives the beer a unique rosy-red color and a fruity twang.

One beer reviewer described the taste as "if passion tea and an IPA had a love baby."

Curious about what would be a bear's favorite beer? Get it while you can - it's only available while (very limited) supplies last at Simmzy's.
