'Where's Waldo' Hunt Returns to Downtown

Jul 05, 2018 04:45PM ● By Jeanne Fratello
Where's Waldo? For the month of July, at least, he's all over Downtown Manhattan Beach - and if you find him, you could win a prize.

To play the Waldo game, stop by pages: a bookstore, and pick up a "Where's Waldo" passport. Then explore downtown, find him at local businesses, and get your passport stamped or signed. Altogether, there are 21 official Waldo locations downtown.

Once you collect at least 11 Waldo stamps/signatures, bring your passport back to pages: a bookstore for an "I Found Waldo" button and a $1 off coupon (limited to the first 125 Waldo hunters).

If you collect at least 15 Waldo stamps/signatures, turn in your passport to be entered into a drawing to win a pack of Waldo books and other great prizes. The drawing, along with a grand celebration, will be held at 3:00 p.m. at pages: a bookstore on Sunday, July 29.

This is the seventh summer in a row that indie bookstores across the country are hosting Find Waldo scavenger hunts while spreading the “shop local” message in their cities and towns. More than 250 independent bookstores are participating in the event, which is spearheaded by Waldo publisher Candlewick Press and the American Booksellers Association.

2018 also marks the 31st anniversary of the bespectacled, red-and-white-striped traveler. Author/illustrator Martin Handford began his career as a freelance illustrator specializing in drawing crowd scenes. Waldo (known as Wally in Great Britain) is now a cultural icon with over 67 million Waldo books in print worldwide that have been translated into more than thirty languages.
