CHOICE Program To Hold Pop-Up Store

May 02, 2018 09:57AM ● By Jeanne Fratello
Time to do some shopping for Mom: The booster club for the MBUSD CHOICE program for neurodiverse young adults will hold Mother's Day pop-up stores featuring products handmade by students.

The pop-up store will offer handmade gifts including candles and ornaments, all in the $5 to $20 price range.

The store will be open at the Manhattan Beach Unified School District office building (on the east side of the building) on Tuesday, May 8, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; and at Pennekamp Elementary School on Wednesday, May 9, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.

The MBUSD CHOICE Transition Program is a Manhattan Beach Unified School District initiative for individuals with special education needs. The program aims to address long-term goals in the areas of community, healthy living, opportunity, independence, career, and emotional social well-being.

The program was established in 2015 by the MBUSD special education department to provide students with in-district options for federally mandated special education transition services. The program provides life skills and vocational training for 18-to-22-year-olds with neurodisorders who are enrolled in the program.

The booster club for the MBUSD CHOICE program is a sub-organization of the MBX Foundation. All proceeds from the pop-up store sales go directly to the booster program to enrich and enhance the CHOICE program.
