Crowds Rally for 'March for Our Lives' at Manhattan Beach Pier

Mar 24, 2018 02:05PM ● By Jeanne Fratello
An estimated 5,000 people swarmed the Manhattan Beach Pier on Saturday morning for a local "March for Our Lives" protest, in support of the larger gun control march going on across the country.

Chanting, "No more silence - Stop gun violence!" the crowd heard a brief rally speech from organizers, then marched from Manhattan Beach to the Hermosa Beach Pier, where protesters heard from speakers Congressman Ted Lieu, State Senator Ben Allen, and State Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi.

Students in particular have been motivated to call for stronger gun control measures following last month's school massacre in Parkland, FL.

Earlier this month, Manhattan Beach middle school and high school students staged a "Day of Expression" to protest gun violence. The Manhattan Beach City Council has since pledged to contribute $1 million toward enhanced school safety measures in the Manhattan Beach schools.
