Members of the Green Hornets dmeonstrate their spirit during the Opening Day Parade for MBLL and MBGS on March 7, 2015.

Even if it doesn't feel like spring yet, spring and summer are just around the corner: On Saturday, March 3, Manhattan Beach Little League will carry out its traditional parade marking the official beginning of the youth baseball season. At the end of the parade, the Manhattan Beach Department of Parks and Recreation will be holding its annual Summer Camp Expo.

This year's parade - the 60th annual parade - will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Manhattan Beach Fire Department. Players will be suited up in their uniforms, and accompanied by antique cars, a fire truck, and the Mira Costa High School Marching Band. It will wind through downtown and end up on the blacktop with a carnival at the American Martyrs School baseball field.

The Manhattan Beach Little League boasts more than 70 teams in Tee-Ball, California, Coast, International, and Majors divisions. By its 50th anniversary, in 2008, Manhattan Beach Little League was the largest in the country with over 1,700 participants. The softball division has since left Little League and joined the American Softball Association. Manhattan Beach Youth Athletics now runs Manhattan Beach Little League and Manhattan Beach Girls' Softball.

Following the parade, the Manhattan Beach Department of Parks and Rec will be on hand at American Martyrs, hosting the annual Summer Camp Expo. The expo will offer raffles, games, and prizes. It will run from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
