Run the 'Best Holiday Race in L.A.' - Twice

Dec 12, 2017 06:41PM ● By Jeanne Fratello
The family-friendly Manhattan Beach Glowtide Run is a holiday spectacle that's been called the "Best Holiday Race in Los Angeles." This year, it'll be twice the fun: The 5K race will be held on both December 16 and 31.

The race starts at 5:30 p.m. just north of the Manhattan Beach Pier and travels along the sand from the pier to the jetty at 45th Street. The race is lit with glow sticks all along the way.

Runners of all ages, walkers, and parents pushing baby joggers are all welcome. The December 16 race features glow necklaces and holiday shirts for all registered participants, and beanie awards in 28 divisions. The New Year's Eve race will offer glow necklaces, a New Year's Eve shirt, and a commemorative New Year's coffee or beer mug to all registered participants

For those who are running for time, the miles are marked with splits and "kick" markers from 400m to guarantee a fast finish. The super-low tide creates a perfect running surface of hard packed sand like a dirt road, so running with or without shoes is an option (the faster athletes tend to wear shoes), and track spikes are also permitted.

Online registration is available now - $40 per person, per race, with a $70 special for running both races. Packet pickup and late registration for the December 16 race is available Friday, December 15th from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Village Runner; and from 3:00 to 5:15 p.m. at the pier on race day.

The race is sponsored by DigMB's sister site, Manhattan Beach Confidential.
