Manhattan Beach Open Celebrates 50 Years

Jul 11, 2017 02:24PM ● By Jeanne Fratello
Marking a half-century-old tradition, tennis players will converge on Manhattan Beach for the 50th Annual Manhattan Beach Open Tennis Tournament, to be held from July 20 to 23.

The tournament will feature a range of divisions from Men's and Women's Open Singles and Doubles Divisions to Amateur Divisions. Registration fees are $40 for singles and $60 for doubles. (Note that players must register by Friday, July 14 to be a part of the tournament.)

The single-elimination tournament will offer prizes and trophies for all division winners. All entries include lunch, a T-shirt, and a goodie bag.

The matches will be held at Live Oak Park and Mira Costa High School tennis courts. The finals will be hosted by the Manhattan Country Club. Spectators are welcome.

For the first time, this year's tournament is also offering a tennis racquet exchange, which will be held at the Live Oak and Mira Costa locations.

"With our 50th anniversary of the tournament this year, we wanted to bring something new that really connected to the Manhattan Beach community," said Michael Hudak, tournament coordinator. "What better way to say we are Manhattan Beach Parks and Recreation than an eco-friendly recycling program?"

All racquets should be in usable condition. Participants are asked to take only what they need; all remaining items will be donated to charitable organizations.
