Find Waldo in Downtown Manhattan Beach

Jul 09, 2017 01:03PM ● By Jeanne Fratello
Where's Waldo? All this month, he's in Downtown Manhattan Beach and he's waiting for you to share in the fun with your family.

To play the Waldo game, stop by pages: a bookstore, and pick up a "Where's Waldo" passport. Then explore downtown, find him at local businesses, and get your passport stamped or signed. (There are 19 different Waldos and one Wenda to find.)

If you collect at least 10 stamps/signatures, bring your passport to pages and you can receive an "I Found Waldo" button and a $1 off coupon at pages (limited to the first 125 participants). If you collect at least 14 of 19 signatures, you'll get the button, the coupon, and be entered into a drawing to win a deluxe set of Waldo books plus other prizes.

Either way, plan to attend the Waldo celebration and grand prize drawing at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 30 at pages.

Stumped? Look for different clues where you can find Waldo each day on the Downtown Manhattan Beach Facebook page.

This is the sixth summer in a row that indie bookstores across the country will host Find Waldo scavenger hunts while spreading the “shop local” message in their cities and towns. More than 250 independent bookstores are participating in the event, which is spearheaded by Waldo publisher Candlewick Press and the American Booksellers Association.

2017 also marks the 30th anniversary of the bespectacled, red-and-white-striped traveler. Author/illustrator Martin Handford began his career as a freelance illustrator specializing in drawing crowd scenes. Waldo (known as Wally in Great Britain) is now a cultural icon with over 67 million Waldo books in print worldwide that have been translated into more than thirty languages.
