Runners at the 22nd Annual Murad Grand View Gator 5K on May 20 made great strides in in both running in fundraising: The race, which benefits the Manhattan Beach Education Foundation (MBEF), brought in $35,000 for Manhattan Beach schools.

Mira Costa runner Cy Chittenden took first place overall - for the second year in a row - with a time of 17:37. He was followed by men's finishers Alan Faber, Kevin Lohner, Ezra Holland, and Joseph Olivas, respectively.

Women were led by Kate Myers, who also repeated last year's winning performance, with a time of 21:41. Following in second through fifth places for women were Anna Chittenden, Tiffany Chen, Celeste Gebhardt, and Heather Schwarz.

A total of 629 runners came out for the race. Manhattan Beach Mayor David J. Lesser and Principal Nancy Doyle greeted the runners, and City Councilmember Richard Montgomery was also in attendance.

"Saturday's run was a wonderful community event and a great success," said Farnaz G. Flechner, executive director of MBEF. "We are grateful to Grand View, all of the Gator Run participants and all the business sponsors for their ongoing support of MBEF and Manhattan Beach schools."
