May 21, 2017 04:07PM ● By Jeanne Fratello
The Tour de Pier, an annual event to raise funding for cancer charities, brought in more than $1.2 million on Sunday, far surpassing its $1 million goal.

The popular event, held each year at the Manhattan Beach Pier, has now raised nearly $3 million for cancer charities since 2013.

Beneficiaries of the Tour de Pier are The Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research (pancreatic.org), The Uncle Kory Foundation (unclekory.org) and Cancer Support Community (cancersupportredondobeach.org).

During the event, participants ride stationary bikes on The Strand overlooking the Manhattan Beach Pier. Through five one-hour sessions, the South Bay’s top instructors and celebrity guests inspire teams of riders as they pedal through a workout. The event, which draws thousands to Manhattan Beach, also includes a health and fitness expo.
