Dreamed of becoming an artist or performer? The Manhattan Beach Art Center's new LIVE series could give you just the experience you need to get started. A new series of free workshops will offer open peer-supported opportunities for residents to get first-hand experience with the arts.
The series will kick off on Thursday, April 6, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Manhattan Beach Art Center with a costume figure drawing class. Participants are invited to hang out with friends and practice figure drawing skills with a live costumed model. There are no instructors, and no rules about how or what to draw. Attendees should bring their own materials; easels will be provided if necessary.
The series will continue on Thursday, April 27, with an Open Mic workshop for poets, comedians, musicians, performance artists, and more. The workshop will open with networking from 5:00 to 5:50 p.m., and will continue with open mic from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The workshop is open to beginners and old-timers alike to practice and hone their skills in front of a like-minded, easy-going audience. (Performers are asked to refrain from advertising/promoting businesses, displaying nudity, hate speech and proselytizing.)
Participants ages 16 and above are welcome to join the events. All events are free, but donations will be accepted. Light refreshments will be provided.
For questions, please contact the Manhattan Beach Art Center at (310) 802-5440 or [email protected]
