Glow Sticks and Fast Times at the Manhattan Beach Yuletide 5K

The Manhattan Beach Yuletide 5K has been called the "best beach race on the West Coast" and the "most unusual running event in Los Angeles." On Saturday, December 17, bring the whole gang down to the Manhattan Beach Pier to find out why.

Runners, walkers, and baby joggers are encouraged to join in the race, which starts at 5:30 p.m., The race course begins under the pier, goes along the hard wet sand at water's edge (lit by glowsticks and luminaria) to 45th Street, and then returns to the pier.

Holiday-themed costumes are welcome and encouraged (Don't forget your Santa hat and jingle bells! Glowing noses are optional.)

Glow necklaces and race t-shirts are guaranteed to all pre-registered runners and to late registrants while supplies last.

Additionally the race's unique "Wooly Hat Awards" are given to the top 5 runners in each of 28 age divisions, along with a chance to stand on the podium.

Kids can do the 5K or compete in the LIttle Elves Dash after the 5K. After the kids' races, the top five kids will have the chance to stand on the podium in each of the following divisions: 2 and under, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12.

The evening's schedule is as follows:
  • 5K Run/Walk - 5:30 p.m. (all ages)
  • Elves Dash 1K - 6:20 p.m. (age 7-12)
  • Little Elves 400m - 6:25 p.m. (age 3-6)
  • Crawlers 50m - 6:30 p.m. (age 2 and under)
The race entry costs $35 for adults and $25 for kid races. Packet pickup and late registration is available at Village Runner on Friday, December 16th, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; and from 3:00 p.m.-5:15 p.m. at the Manhattan Beach Pier on race day. Late registration costs $40 for the 5K and $30 for kids' races.

The race is managed by longtime race coordinator and running coach Jeff Atkinson and is sponsored by DigMB's sister site Manhattan Beach Confidential.
