Fit On Studios To Host Teen Wellness Events

Nov 30, 2016 03:00PM ● By Jeanne Fratello
Teens are feeling many pressures these days - and they need healthy outlets for managing that stress. That's the idea behind a series of workshops for teens presented by South Bay Families Connected, as a free resource for South Bay families.

This month's free teens-only workshops will be held at Fit On Studios on Sunday, December 4 from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m., and Thursday, December 22 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The December 4 class will teach teens easy-to-use techniques to calm the mind, restore the nervous system and lower levels of the stress hormone, cortisol, so teens can focus and succeed in the classroom and beyond.

The December 22 class will be a free cycling class designed to accommodate teens at all fitness levels. The lights will be turned down and the volume will go up as teens ride into the holiday break. Participants may register for these events by calling 310-546-4191.

"We are proud to be able to offer classes that provide stress release and a healthy distraction from the daily pressures of teenage life here in the South Bay," said Angela Bennett, co-owner of Fit On Studios and the mother of three teenagers.

South Bay Families Connected was created in response to the high level of community concern regarding teen alcohol and drug use in the Beach Cities. The group was formed in August 2015 to support parents in their efforts to help their kids reach their full potential and live healthy, fulfilled lives. With this shared community goal in mind, SBFC offers parents and children free resources, education, and local opportunities to connect and discuss issues.

South Bay Families Connected is also hosting a parent chat on "How the New Laws Impact Your Teens," about marijuana and social host ordinances for alcohol. The event will be held on December 1 from 6:00 to 7:15 p.m. at the Hermosa Beach City Council Chambers.
