Volleyball/Soccer Camp Offers Twice the Fun

Nov 17, 2016 10:00AM ● By Jeanne Fratello
Looking for a great opportunity for your kids over Thanksgiving break? Have them hone their skills at a unique two-day, two-sport camp jointly run by local favorites VolleySkills and Sand and Surf Soccer Club.

The camp, for kids ages 7 to 14, will be held on Wednesday, November 23 and Friday, November 25 at the Manhattan Beach MIddle School gym and soccer fields. It is designed for both beginner and advanced players who are interested in improving their soccer and volleyball skills in a fun dual-sport environment.

The camp will be held each day from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., starting with soccer and switching to volleyball on the first day; then reversing the schedule on the second day. Players are asked to bring their own gear for each sport. The camp costs $120 per day, or $200 for both days.

The camp will be led by two experienced local coaches: Volleyball coach Jessica Swarbrick, the founder of VolleySkills and the VolleySkills Foundation, was part of a national championship winning team and played volleyball for six years professionally overseas before starting her organization. Sand and Surf Soccer Club's Carl Dickson grew up in Ireland and played and coached soccer in England before moving to the United States to coach.

"It felt like a perfect fit teaming up with Sand and Surf because their philosophy was much the same as VolleySkills," said Swarbrick. "The goal is to develop our players by challenging them in a positive learning environment to maximize their potential while moving them forward in soccer, in our community, and in life.”
