MB Coordinating Council To Honor Students

Nov 15, 2016 08:17AM ● By Jeanne Fratello
Reflecting the spirit of a community that values and honors scholarship, The Manhattan Beach Coordinating Council will host a luncheon recognizing outstanding local students on Thursday.

The luncheon will be held on November 17 at 11:30 a.m. at The Belamar Hotel.

Students from Manhattan Beach elementary schools, American Martyrs School, Manhattan Beach MIddle School and Mira Costa High School will be spotlighted for academic and community excellence. Registration is required to attend the luncheon and can be completed online at www.mbcoordinatingcouncil.com (click on “luncheons”).

“Community support is integral to the mission of the Manhattan Beach Coordinating Council,” said Stephanie Martin, MBCC president. “Our community sponsors are the lifeblood of our scholarship fund, which every year helps local high school students realize their dreams of college educations.”

The MBCC’s mission is to establish a forum to promote networking, communication and information exchange among agencies, organizations and individuals and to provide recognition to local students.

It will hold a series of five luncheons during the academic year to recognize students: on November 17, January 19, March 16, April 20, and May 18. The 2017 scholarship recipients will be announced at the May 18, 2017 scholarship luncheon.

To provide recognition and college scholarships to students, the Coordinating Council relies on community sponsors. All proceeds support MBCC’s annual scholarship fund, which awarded $61,500 to 19 graduating seniors from Mira Costa High School during the past three years. Since 2004, the MBCC has awarded $175,000 in scholarship money.
