Video: Gym Roof Leaks at Mira Costa

Oct 31, 2016 09:55AM ● By Mb News Staff
For Patty Perkinson, a "wipe up" job after the rain is just part of the job... indoors.

Protecting kids and the Mira Costa High School's 1950s-vintage gym means dealing with roof leaks. In this video, Perkinson, who coaches soccer and lacrosse and is also a PE teacher, explains matter-of-factly that the aged and rotted roof has a couple of typical spots where water comes through and puddles on the main gym's floor.

The second, or west, gym, has it worse. See for yourself in the video below.

Measures C & EE on the November ballot are intended to address overdue repairs and modernizations across the Manhattan Beach Unified School District, from elementary campuses to athletic facilities. Specifically, Measure EE would create a new Athletics Education Complex at Mira Costa for girls' and boys' PE, health education, and community use.

In the weeks preceding the election, Mira Costa has opened the gym for tours for community members to see the decaying facilities. DigMB took a tour of the gym (see Mira Costa Gym Shows Its Age) earlier this month.

When it rains, the Mira Costa gym leaks – badly. That's one thing Measures C & EE are meant to fix.
