Oct 13, 2016 02:42PM ● By Jeanne Fratello
Want to reduce anxiety, depression, and stress? Start by learning how to practice "mindfulness" at a free mindfulness workshop on Saturday.

The workshop, offered by the Beach Cities Health District in partnership with the Manhattan Beach Unified School District and South Bay Families Connected, will be held on October 15 from 9:00 a.m. until noon at the Manhattan Beach MIddle School auditorium.

The workshop is free, but advance registration is required.

Childcare - including a lunch from Fresh Brothers Pizza - will be provided at AdventurePlex for ages 3+, at a cost of $25 for the first child, $15 for siblings. Click here to register for the childcare.

Mindfulness can be defined as paying attention in the here and now with a quality of openness, curiosity and kindness. According to BCHD, being mindful isn’t about achieving a particular feeling or removing specific thoughts; it’s about meeting the experience of the moment just as it is, without adding extra criticism or judgment. Over time and with practice, many find that through mindfulness they gain more clarity about circumstances in their life and they are better able to handle stressors at home and in the workplace.

Beach Cities Health District also offers a "Monthly Mindfulness Drop-In" - a 30-minute session to downshift and practice mindfulness techniques - on the first Wednesday of each month at Beach Cities Health District headquarters in Redondo Beach from 5:30-6 p.m.
