Farmers Market to Celebrate 10 Years

Jul 11, 2016 10:29AM ● By Jeanne Fratello
For the past 10 years, the Manhattan Beach Farmers Market has enriched the community with weekly fresh fruits and veggies, prepared foods, entertainment, and contributions to health and education. On Tuesday, the community will come together to celebrate the market's 10th anniversary in style.

The celebration will begin at 10:45 a.m. with a group aerial photo in the community quad. Vendors, customers, volunteers, City Council members and staff, downtown business owners and the public are all invited to be a part of the picture.

The market will open promptly at 11:00 a.m. with more than 45 vendors ready to greet customers with their weekly smile and fresh food. Customers will find special anniversary flavors and offers throughout the market.

Giveaways sponsored by downtown businesses will be announced every hour on the half hour, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Prizes include such items as a cooking lesson with MB resident/Chef Pamela Salzman; a Farmhouse Cookbook (donated by {pages} a bookstore); a yoga class (courtesy of Beach House Yoga); dining certificates from Pitfire Pizza, The Zislis Group, and Simm’s Group restaurants; and an abundant basket of Farmers Market loot.

Raffle tickets for the giveaways will be on sale for $2/each or 25 for $20. Tickets can be purchased at the Information Booth and ticket holders need not be present to win.

Customers will find an array of special food offerings, including:
  • Completely Pickled is offering 10% off 2 or more jars as well as a gift with purchase
  • Raw Can Super Juice is offering a special on their “5 Day Raw Deep Cleanse” for $65
  • Marsatta Chocolate will be offering French Chocolate Madelines on Tuesday only
  • Crepes will be making a one of a kind “Pizza Crepe”
  • Dry Dock Fish Company will be discounting their fresh catch.

Featured activities include the Roundhouse Aquarium's “touch tank," sing-a-longs with Growing Great, veggie stamping with Grades of Green, and also live music, face painting, train rides, and balloon art throughout the day.

Launched in the summer of 2006, the Manhattan Beach Farmers Market is open every Tuesday, rain or shine, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the summer and 4:00 p.m. during the school year. The market is located on 13th Street between Valley and Morningside Drives.

Sponsored by the Downtown Business & Professional Association, the Manhattan Beach Certified Farmers Market directs proceeds to Growing Great, Grades of Green, and the Manhattan Beach Education Foundation (MBEF).
