Get Ready for the MB5K - The 'Best Race of the Summer'

Jun 22, 2016 03:57PM ● By Jeanne Fratello
Lace up those shoes and start your summer on the right "foot" - The MB5K is just around the corner! This Manhattan Beach 5K, starting down on the flat sand at the Manhattan Beach Pier,  is a favorite among serious runners and families alike.

The race/walk sets out at the water's edge underneath the pier, heads out to the 45th Street jetty and returns to the pier. The lowest tide of the season creates a running surface of hard packed sand, so running with or without shoes is an option (the faster athletes tend to wear shoes). For families, baby joggers work well and are welcome.

Kids can do the 5K or compete in their own race after the main event in the LIttle Kid's Dash in the following divisions: 2 and under, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, or 11-12. Adults have a chance to watch the youngsters race up and down at age appropriate distances.

The 5K run/walk starts at 7:30 a.m. (all ages), followed by the Kids Dash 1K at 8:20 a.m. (age 7-12), the Little Kids 400m at 8:25 a.m. (age 3-6), and Crawlers 50m at 8:25 a.m. (age 2 and under).

T-shirts are guaranteed to all pre-registered runners and to late registrants while supplies last. And of course, the race's World Famous Cookie Medals are awarded to the top five runners in all 28 age divisions.

Packet pick-up and registration is available on Friday, June 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at
Village Runner; and from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. at the Manhattan Beach Pier on race day. The fee is $40 for the 5K and $30 for the kids' races.

The event is sponsored by the Manhattan Beach real estate web site (and DigMB publisher) MB Confidential.
