Love & Salt Now Selling Layer Cakes

Here's an idea that takes the cake - literally: Love & Salt is now selling pastry chef Rebecca Merhej's gourmet cakes by special order.

The two-layer masterpieces are available in flavors including Buttermilk Polenta (with raspberries and almond buttercream), Chocolate Olive Oil (with chocolate buttercream and sea salt), and Coffee Cake (with cinnamon buttercream and oat streusel). An additional seasonal specialty is available based on Merhej's finds at the local Santa Monica farmers' market; the current offering is Citrus Cake with lemon curd and vanilla buttercream.

The cakes are priced at $45 for an 8'' cake and $65 for an 10'' cake. Orders must be placed 48 hours in advance by calling the restaurant at 310-545-5252.

Merhej, chef de cuisine and pastry chef at Love & Salt, helped develop the concept for the restaurant with Chef Michael Fiorelli (with whom she worked at mar'sel at Terranea) and owners Guy and Silvie Gabriele. She was named one of Zagat's "30 Under 30 - Rock Stars Redefining the Industry" for Los Angeles in 2014 and one of Eater L.A.'s "Young Guns" for 2015.
