They are the champions: Team Lightning, the AYSO Region 18 Girls U12 soccer team from Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach, won the Western States Championships in Arizona on Saturday. They clinched the league title in overtime with a 5-2 victory over a team from Montebello.

The team is now number one among GU12 soccer teams in California, Oregon, Nevada, and Western Arizona. This is the first girls' team from Manhattan/Hermosa Beach to win the Western States Championships for their league.

Team Lightning is led by Head Coach Alan Franz, along with assistant coaches Michael Gerhardt and Matt Grimes.
