Girls U12 Soccer Team Clinches Title

They are the champions: Team Lightning, the AYSO Region 18 Girls U12 soccer team from Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach, won the Western States Championships in Arizona on Saturday. They clinched the league title in overtime with a 5-2 victory over a team from Montebello.

The girls began the weekend in preliminary rounds with a 2-1 victory against a team from Bakersfield. Lisa Boos scored two goals - the second one in overtime - to earn the team a place in the finals.

During the final game, Lisa Boos scored three goals, and Skyler Gerhardt scored two.

The team is now number one among GU12 soccer teams in California, Oregon, Nevada, and Western Arizona. This is the first girls' team from Manhattan/Hermosa Beach to win the Western States Championships for their league.

Team Lightning is led by Head Coach Alan Franz, along with assistant coaches Michael Gerhardt and Matt Grimes.

Team members include Anna Iantuono, Chaney Fix, Jamison Wallis, Lea Pepemehmetoglu, Lisa Boos, Lucca Franz, Maria Hoffman, Mila Matich, Molly Grimes, Quincy Wedbush, Riley Atwater, Skyler Gerhardt, Tillie Lamkin, and Uma Mehta.

In separate action at the tournament on Sunday, all-star teams from Manhattan/Hermosa Beach took the titles in the GU12, GU14, and BU12 divisions.
