'An Evening of Eclectic Ensembles' to benefit Costa2Carnegie

Mar 06, 2016 10:26PM ● By Jeanne Fratello
How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice - and perform, which is what Mira Costa High School musicians will be doing as they present "An Evening of Eclectic Ensembles" on Friday, March 11.

The concert, to be held from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., will be produced and performed by students, who are raising money for their trip to Carnegie Hall in May. The event will include food, a “Rockin’ Raffle” and lots of live music, performed by small ensembles and spanning a wide spectrum of musical genres.

Raffle prizes will include a pair of Lakers tickets with parking, an Apple Watch, LA Phil orchestra tickets, tickets to a LA Kings game, jewelry, and even 2 ukuleles.

“This event will present a unique perspective of our student musicians," said MCHS Orchestra Director Peter Park. "Although our traditional concerts are popular with our audiences, this new event will provide a different concert-going experience that will be refreshing and just as enjoyable.”

Not just a fundraiser, this is also a wonderful opportunity for the South Bay to see – and hear – what Mira Costa’s music program is all about, including watching students explore music outside their "comfort zones," said MCHS Band Director Joel Carlson. “Some of these musicians will be playing instruments they do not play in the classroom. Many are trying new kinds of music. It’s just a great opportunity for them.”

Fundraising efforts for the Carnegie trip have included everything from GoFundMe and restaurant nights, to candy sales and a corporate sponsorship campaign with such donors as The Broad Foundation, Hunt Enterprises, Inc., MB Orthodontics, and MB Property Owners Association.

Tickets to the March 11 concert are available in advance for $20 or can be purchased for $25 at the door.
