Volunteer to Help Athletes on the 'Road to Rio'

Jan 12, 2016 09:43PM ● By Jeanne Fratello
Elite international badminton athletes are on the 'Road to Rio' - and you can help them get there. From February 3 through 7, the Manhattan Beach Badminton Club (MBBC) will be hosting an Olympic badminton qualifying event, and the club is seeking local volunteers to help.

The MBBC, in coordination with the Badminton World Federation, the International Olympic Committee, the United States Olympic Committee, and USA Badminton, is the site of the final U.S. Olympic badminton qualifying tournament stop. MBBC is working in partnership with the City of Manhattan Beach to host the international athletes.

Volunteers are needed between February 1 and February 7, primarily to transport athletes and umpires between LAX, MBBC, and the hotel, Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham Manhattan Beach. Volunteers may visit the VolunteerSpot link to choose a shift.

For those who wish to watch what promises to be an exciting event, attendance is free on February 3 through February 5 from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 (at the door only) for the semi-finals on February 6 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. and finals on February 7 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
