Yuletide 5K Runners Light Up the Night

Dec 13, 2015 08:31AM ● By Jeanne Fratello
With luminaria and glow sticks lighting the way, hundreds of runners made their way down the beach at the Manhattan Beach Yuletide 5K on Saturday.

The runners - many with jingle bells and Santa hats bobbing - sprinted on the sand from the Manhattan Beach Pier to the northernmost end of Manhattan Beach and back.

The annual race, run at low tide during the winter solstice, draws families, local athletes, and groups of friends looking for fun.

Duncan Reid, 17, of Palos Verdes Estates, was the first to cross the finish line at 18:16, followed by Michael Yaskowitz, 17, of Hermosa Beach; and Preston Ortiz, 17.

The top female finisher was Brooke Inouye, 15, of Manhattan Beach in 22:09; followed by Audrey Stansbury, 37, of Hermosa Beach; and Sam Cohen, 15, of Palos Verdes Peninsula.

The race is directed by local running coach Jeff Atkinson and is sponsored by Manhattan Beach Confidential.
