Get Ready for Holiday Fireworks

Dec 06, 2015 10:03PM ● By Jeanne Fratello
How do you know when the holiday season has truly arrived? When it's time for holiday fireworks at the Manhattan Beach Pier.

The 27th annual Holiday Fireworks Festival, sponsored by Skechers, will be held on Sunday, December 13. The festivities begin with a snow park - including five 50-foot sled runs and two snow play areas - starting at 4:00 p.m. Holiday music, a bounce park, and photo ops with Santa will round out the afternoon, followed by the big fireworks show at 7:00 p.m.

Musical attractions include local favorites the Hyperion Outfall Serenaders, Joe's Band, the Grammy-Award-winning Mira Costa Jazz Ensemble, and Cantor Ari Perelmuter. Master of ceremonies will be Lou Giovannetti.

For admission to the snow park, festival-goers are asked to bring food, cash, or unwrapped toys to donate to the YMCA Adventure Guides Charity.

Local venues with a view are also offering special fireworks viewing parties, such as the popular Strand House party. Although this year's "Light Up the Night" party at the Strand House is already sold out, Shade Hotel is taking table reservations for their "Sip Under the Sparkle" event.

Several main streets will be closed in Downtown Manhattan Beach for the festival. See a map of street closures here.

GIven that the popular festival is expected to be extremely crowded, the Downtown Manhattan Beach Business and Professional's Association offer these suggestions for festival-goers:
  • Plan to arrive EARLY, as downtown roads are closed at 2:00 p.m. and parking lots fill up very fast.
  • If you want to secure a spot for watching the fireworks, it is best to do so by 2:00 p.m.
  • Use the time between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. to do some holiday shopping. Merchants will hold your bags so you can enjoy the festival without schlepping packages.
  • If you chose to arrive after 3pm, walking, biking, or Ubering is HIGHLY recommended.
