Golden Hearts Ranch's Social Living Club collects food donations for its food drive

As many of us prepare for a food-filled holiday, it's important to remember that there are many families who are struggling to afford basic necessities like food. Here in Manhattan Beach, several organizations are collecting food donations this week to help those who are less fortunate. Please let us know if you know of others and we will be happy to add them to the list:

American Martyrs Church is holding a food drive after all Saturday and Sunday masses. Contributions of pantry staple foods will be given to American Martyrs' sister parish of St. Lawrence. Parishioners are also encouraged to contribute coupons and newspaper inserts that can help families save money on food purchases.

Baja Sharkeez Manhattan Beach is offering its annual "(Not Your Mom's) Thanksgiving Eve Canned Food Drive." On Wednesday, bring in a canned food item and from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m., buy one drink and get the second one for 25 cents. Plus they're offering a Spicy Stuffing Eating Contest with up to $500 in prizes - what's not to like? Call or text (310) 265-3386 for more information.

CoeDynamics Pilates Studio is holding its 5th annual Thanksgiving food drive: The studio will be accepting donations of $5 or more through Wednesday (November 25) to contribute to Thanksgiving food boxes filled with fresh organic produce and pasture-raised turkeys from Whole Foods. CoeDynamics will be delivering these to families affiliated with Aviva Family and Children Services. Your donations will be recognized with a free Pilates/TRX Class; clients with class memberships will receive a $10 credit towards their account in lieu of a free class.

First Lutheran Church of Manhattan Beach will be collecting canned goods during its Thanksgiving Eve service on Wednesday, November 25 at 7:00 p.m. For more information, contact the church office at 310-545-5653.

Golden Heart Ranch will host its third annual Social Living Club food drive on Sunday, November 22, from 10:00 to 2:00 p.m., to benefit Project Needs of Redondo Beach. The collection will take place in the Supreme Paints parking lot at 8th and Sepulveda.

The Rotary Club of Manhattan Beach is collecting nonperishable food for a Food For Kids drive at its Monday (November 23) meeting. The food will be collected for the Food For Kids program  that is donated to food-insecure families with kids in South Bay Title 1 Schools.

Trinity Lutheran Church will be filling bags with groceries for St. Paul’s Methodist Church food bank in Redondo Beach. Please pick up an empty brown grocery bag with a food list and return it filled. The church will be filling the altar with food.

Vons is offering one of the easiest ways to donate - just pay for an extra bag when you go shopping. Through the Vons Bag Hunger Food Drive, you pay $7 for a pre-filled bag of groceries (ask for it at check-out) and Vons will donate the food to local food banks.
