The holidays are almost upon us, and the Manhattan Beach holiday celebrations are just around the corner. Mark your calendars now so you'll be sure to catch these beloved town traditions:

The 26th annual Pier Lighting Festival and Holiday Open House will be held on Wednesday, November 18 in downtown Manhattan Beach and at the Manhattan Beach Pier. Santa will make an early appearance at Metlox Plaza beginning at 5:00 p.m. From 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., there will be reindeer, carolers, local musical ensembles, and complimentary refreshments at stores across downtown Manhattan Beach. The formal pier lighting will be held at 7:00 p.m.

Manhattan Village Mall will hold its annual holiday parade to welcome Santa on the day after Thanksgiving. The parade will begin at 9:00 a.m. and festivities will continue afterwards in the mall. Register your family to march in the parade and receive a free gift bag.

The Manhattan Beach Santa Float, sponsored by Manhattan Beach Kiwanis, will make its way around town on weeknights starting at 5:00 p.m. from November 30 through December 17 (a make-up rain date will be held December 18 if needed). See the route map for details. Santa will stop in the middle of each block.

The Sandpipers will host their annual Holiday Homes Tour from Friday, December 4 through Sunday, December 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The tour features four local homes exquisitely decorated for the holidays. Tickets for the event are $30 presale; $35 at the door. Proceeds from ticket sales go to Sandpipers' philanthropic programs.

At the north end of town, the North Manhattan Beach Holiday Open House and Walk About will be held on Thursday, December 10 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. between 32nd and 42nd Streets on Highland Ave. Merchants will be offering unique gifts and refreshments, and raffle prizes will be given away between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. From 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Santa will be flying in from the North Pole, landing at the "Miracle of 34th Street."

The Manhattan Beach Yuletide 5K, the most unusual running race in L.A., is run on the wet sand on the beach after dark, lit entirely by the light of glowsticks. This fun, family-oriented race will be held on Saturday, December 12 at 5:30 p.m.

Last but not least, the granddaddy of Manhattan Beach holiday events, the annual holiday fireworks show, will be held this year on Sunday, December 13. The event begins with the SKECHERS Snow Park at 4:00 p.m., along with musical entertainment from the Hyperion Outfall Serenaders and the Mira Costa Jazz Ensemble. The fireworks show begins at the pier at 7:00 p.m., as sponsored by SKECHERS with an extended finale sponsored by Belkin.
