TEDx Manhattan Beach To Offer Local, Artisanal Food

Oct 29, 2015 09:08AM ● By Jeanne Fratello

TEDx Manhattan Beach promises to nourish your mind; why shouldn't it nourish your body as well? In keeping with the event theme “What’s Next?”, TEDx Manhattan Beach has partnered with the SOURCE CAFE at the beach to serve attendees delicious, locally sourced, healthy fare with energizing and restorative menu selections and powerful superfoods at its November 14 conference.

"We are thrilled to have the Source Cafe partnering with us to make this year's event especially memorable," said Kate Bergin, TEDx Manhattan Beach curator. "The cafe's approach to restorative, healthy foods fits right in with our theme of fresh new ways of thinking."

TEDx Manhattan Beach is an inter-generational community event - planned, run and attended by a diverse group of local South Bay residents - that is sponsored by the city of Manhattan Beach, the Manhattan Beach Unified School District, and the Manhattan Beach Education Foundation (MBEF)

This year's event, to be held at the Manhattan Beach Middle School, will consist of 12 live speakers, TED videos, an interactive expo hall, and special features such as a large scale community weaving project.

The day's menu (subject to change) includes paleo chicken salad, fall farro salad, "Kale Caesar" salad, almond balls, and a "Bananza" smoothie.

The Hermosa Beach-based cafe has been bringing healthy fare to South Bay since 2012. Chef Amber Caudle spent her early culinary formative years studying and cooking in Colorado, Napa Valley, Italy and Spain. She then brought her culinary vision to Los Angeles, where she began as executive chef of Mediterraneo, and later opened the Source Cafe at the beach.

She creates her menus according to her belief in the rejuvenating and restorative power of fresh, whole, nutritious foods - and she plans to bring the same passion to the foods she creates for TEDx Manhattan Beach.

Tickets for this year's TEDx MB event are still available. Regular admission tickets are $85 per person and include breakfast, lunch, snacks, and a latte bar.
