E-Waste Event Today 9am-1pm

Oct 24, 2015 07:37AM ● By Mb News Staff
Today's the day to bring your used and outdated electronics to the e-waste recycling event at Mira Costa High School

The event, to be held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, will benefit the #Costa2Carnegie effort to bring Mira Costa's Grammy Award-winning band and orchestra to Carnegie Hall in May.

"The funds will be used to get the instruments to the event and back," said event coordinator and band parent Vickie McCorkendale. "It will take this entire village to get them there."

"We get pennies on the pound, which is why we need the community's help. We'll need lots of 'pounds,'" said McCorkendale.

According to McCorkendale, the All Green recycling company will take the electronics from the e-waste drive, break them down, sell the parts, and recycle what they can.

The young musicians will be part of the Distinguished Concerts International New York, 2016 Concert Series. This prestigious series features numerous world and U.S. premieres, world-class musicians at New York's most prestigious venues, and musicians and singers from across America and the globe.

In addition to the e-waste event, a GoFundMe site has been set up for donations to the #Costa2Carnegie effort. Since its launch at the beginning of September, the site has collected just over $3,000 out of a goal of $65,000.

The Mira Costa music program won the GRAMMY® Foundation Signature Schools 2014 Gold Award as one of the top three public high school music programs in the nation.
