Celebrate Halloween Across Manhattan Beach

Oct 23, 2015 10:52AM ● By Jeanne Fratello
How will you celebrate Halloween in Manhattan Beach? Whether you're young or young at heart, looking for a scary good time, or just want some candy, we've got plenty of options:

Pre-Halloween:

Haunted Gingerbread House: Becker's Bakery and Deli has all of your Halloween sweets covered. And if you'd like to display a (delicious) house of horrors, Becker's offers a Haunted Gingerbread House kit ($43) or a fully built, tricked-out Haunted Gingerbread House ($75). (Order early!)

Vampire Steak Dinner: Want to create a spookily delicious meal at home? Head over to GROW, where you can get fixins to make a "Ghostly Bloody Mary" (spicy Bloody Mary mix with ghost pepper salt). And of course you'll serve it with GROW's "Vampire Steak.

Treat Yourself: Shop for yourself at Splendid, and bring the kids for a Halloween-themed sweet treat. For you: Get 20 percent off your purchases, plus an extra 10 percent if you say the code word "Sweet Deal" at checkout. For the kids: Fill a bag loaded with candy from Dylan's Candy Bar. All day, October 24.

World Famous Pumpkin Race: This year marks the 25th annual running of the "World Famous" Great Pumpkin Race of Manhattan Beach - the race that spawned imitators across the country. Design your own racer or simply head down to the Manhattan Beach Pier to watch four-wheeled pumpkins careen down the hill to win it all and go down in pumpkin glory. Noon to 5:00 p.m. on October 25.

Downtown Trick or Treat: Select downtown stores will be offering trick-or-treat to costumed youngsters on Sunday, October 24, during the Great Pumpkin Race. Look for the orange flyer in the window to identify participating merchants - and visit the Downtown Manhattan Beach/Manhattan Beach Farmers' Market booth at the pumpkin race for additional treats. 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., while supplies last, on October 25.

Halloween Day:

Scare and Tear: Limp, crawl, or drag your corpse down to the Manhattan Beach Pier on Halloween morning for the return of the Scare and Tear surf contest. Join your fellow surfers for a ghoulish good time in the water, horrible awards, frighteningly bad grub, excessive candy for the creepy groms, pumpkin carving and more! Entrants will be judged 50% on costume, 50% on surfing. Entry fee $40. 8:00 a.m. on October 31.

Family Halloween Carnival and Haunted House: The Manhattan Beach Parks and Recreation Department hosts its 28th Annual Family Halloween Carnival, featuring a costume contest and parade. Also on tap: A haunted house, sponsored by and created by teens at the Teen Center, bounce houses, carnival games, and the 3,000 Push-Up Challenge. 10:00 a.m to 2:00 p.m. on October 31.

Fright Night at the Village: Swing by Manhattan Village Mall for tricks and treats, arts and crafts, a costume contest, and photos. Look for a special appearance by Ms. Bits n Bobs. 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on October 31.

Manhattan Beach Haunted House:
This local haunted house is so epic it has its own Facebook page. This year's theme is "Carnival and Freak Show." Are you brave enough to handle it? Head over to 1648 10th Street to take part in the madness. 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. on October 31.

Creepy Carnival: Shade Hotel hosts its annual "Creepy Carnival," an adult party with a magician, dance music, and "spine-chilling" drinks. There is no cover charge, but guests will have an opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for $10 to benefit 29-year-old leukemia patient Jon Melim-Honore. For reservations, call 310.469.3466. 7:00 p.m. on October 31.

Halloween at Doma: Doma Kitchen will host a Halloween Party and Costume Contest with food, beer, wine, and a D.J. The winner of the costume contest will take home a $100 gift certificate to Doma. Tickets are $50 apiece (which includes food, beer, and wine) and are available here. 9:00 p.m. on October 31.

Night of the Killer Costumes: Baja Sharkeez Manhattan Beach is offering "Night of the Killer Costumes" on Halloween, with "Count Chocula shots," diving for worms, and "Sexiest" and "Anything Goes" costume contests. Up for grabs is $500 worth of cash and prizes. Attendees are asked to RSVP at least 24 hours prior to 310-265-3386 or [email protected]. (Tip: You'll get in the door faster if you're wearing a costume!) 8:00 p.m. on October 31.

The House Halloween Party: For its first Halloween, Manhattan House will serve a special Halloween-themed dinner menu and is offering happy hour drink prices all night long for anyone in costume - plus a costume contest. The special Halloween menu includes "Blood" ("Bloody" beet salad), "Guts" (Fried chicken livers with fermented chili sauce), and drinks such as The Grim Reaper Punch.

Shark's Cove Halloween: Shark's Cove will be holding a Halloween party with live music, drinks, a costume contest, and no cover charge. 8:00 p.m. on October 31.

And remember, no matter what you decide to do on Halloween, please follow these Halloween safety tips, courtesy of the City of Manhattan Beach!
