Roundhouse Aquarium to Host 3rd Annual 5K Fun Run

May 20, 2015 10:27PM ● By Jeanne Fratello
Will you be jogging for the jellyfish? Racing for the rays? Gunning for the garibaldi? Or shuffling for the shark? No matter which is your favorite creature at the Roundhouse Marine Studies Lab and Aquarium, they're all set to benefit from the June 6 Fun Run for the Oceans 5K.

The race, which is timed to coincide with World Oceans Day, will benefit the Roundhouse Aquarium and its programs. The run will be on the beach, starting at the Manhattan Beach Pier and going north, with a turnaround at the NRG plant. Following the race, participants will be able to enjoy games, live touch-tank exhibits, and a raffle.

Registration is $35 per participant, which covers a t-shirt, water, and refreshments. Additionally, all participants 14 and under will receive a medal. Prizes will include gift certificates to local restaurants and services, surf gear, and tickets to local attractions. Racing categories include age groups for both men and women at 9 & under, 10-14, 15-29, and 30-plus.

New for this year: Students are asked to name their school when they register. The school with the most participants in the fun run will win a fun surprise, including a photo in the Beach Reporter.

Additionally, there will be a raffle after the race, with raffle tickets available for $5 per ticket. The prizes to be given away include gift certificates, gift baskets, and select local experiences from local donors.

The Roundhouse is a non-profit educational training facility. All of the funds raised from the race will go towards Roundhouse Aquarium programs to train new volunteers, create new educational displays, and continue student education programs.
